Trend alert! It would seem that for film studios in 2026 the genre of choice is killer animals – a choice we will never tire of. This year will see the release of movies about killer hippos, alligators and of course sharks, many many sharks. Before all that is the new one from Director Jo-Anne Brechin, entitled Killer Whale – available on all digital platforms from today, 18th May.
The set up is that two girls end up jet ski-ing in Thailand, arriving at a lagoon where a not-so-friendly orca plagued with PTSD from spending most of its life in a Seaworld-type attraction park, is ready to fuck some shit up.
BFFs Maddie (Mel Jarson) and Trish (Virginia Gardner) take off on a trip to escape their trauma and troubles and end up finding Ceto, the orca who has been mysteriously released from the water park after secretly eating employees. The question remains will the girls escape Ceto’s wrath?
The movie has no pretenses about what it might be and that is a guilt-free, edge of your seat, killer beast, B movie. Nature strikes back. Watching it we were engaged from the get-go and honestly there were moments we caught ourselves screeching as Ceto went in for the kill. The story has some fun twists, thankfully the effects are solid and it all comes in at under 90 minutes. We’re sold.
