Having the nerve to release their new single ‘12th October‘ on 3rd November is the perfect introduction to South-London four-piece Red Ivory. Coming on with the energy of Polly-Jean Harvey and one Courtney Love, these teens are barely old enough to remember the 00s, so it’s great to hear the sound of 90s female grunge is alive and kicking in Eiliyah, Berry, Frida and Ivy.
The sneering ’12th October’ mixes grunge with post-punk and indie and is a great example of what is to come with their forthcoming EP entitled Please Leave, I Need To Wake Up Now – out 28th November. Gathering together five songs written between 2021 and 2024, the collection of songs effectively chronicles the band’s formative years. Having recorded the EP at Strongroom Studios with producer Adele Phillips after winning FestivalRepublic’s ReBalance award, the new, fuller reimagined arrangement demonstrates how far they’ve come – a band now ready to shoot for success.
They comment: “We are so happy with how we managed to re-imagine it at Strongroom Studios, so that it is cohesive with our newer, bolder sound whilst still embodying who we were when we first started out. Our relationship with the track and how it has changed closely mirrors the themes and types of change which we focus on throughout the EP.”
