EXCLUSIVE: Woody Fox x Elvis Di Fazio

Last week we featured the delicious Rene Rosales, butching it up in the States, with his two Doberman Pinschers, but this week we’re flipping the script and bringing you Woody Fox, as he gets in touch with his feminine side in Australia. The photos are taken by the talented Elvis Di Fazio, whom we speak to after the feature.

Where are you based?
I’m based in Sydney, Australia.

What type of person normally interests you?
It depends on what I’m curious about and what I feel like exploring at the time.

What sort of themes inspire you?
I love to explore subculture, the psychology of the mind, I really enjoy themes of a spiritual/esoteric nature, but my heart leans towards trash culture, the unmentionable and the forgotten.
I love the challenge of elevating something which society looks down on and getting people to see things in a different light. If you care to look close enough you can see all of those themes running through my work and in the way I like to present my work too.

This shoot feels different compared to your other work. Why did you pursue this angle?
I’m currently ushering in a new energy and with it comes new people to co-create with, who bring with them new strengths and stories to tell. I don’t benefit from having a rigid concept or idea of who I am or how things should be created so there’s no wonder really that it feels fresh or different from my previous work.

Can you tell us about the model?
The model is Australian porn actor, Woody Fox, who was on holiday here in Sydney. Woody is ordinarily based in L.A. We met through a mutual friend, Fernando. Fernando enjoys styling and is currently experimenting with the idea of men in women’s attire. He asked me if I would like to shoot Woody with a loose idea of having him in lingerie and jewels. I loved the idea but suggested he embody the hyper masculine and for us to still shoot him in lingerie and jewels but have him suited also, considering his link to the adult industry. I was keen to give it a fetish angle and shoot it in a way that almost felt like we were profiling a personality rather than dressing a model.

What else is coming up for you in 2018?
I have a love project called ‘Crunk Society’ which is a documentary, subculture / arts platform that I shoot for. This was a project I created as a means to explore subjects that were a little more dangerous in appeal, and it allowed me to collaborate with, and understand, subcultures that I haven’t been exposed to so intimately in the past. Through the project I often found myself in situations where I wanted to help more, to be able to give professional advice or point people in the right direction for help, after all some of the subjects were felons who came from broken homes, some were homeless, some were dealing with dark issues and to a certain degree I felt responsible for them.
That project inspired me to take a substantial amount of time off to study counselling and psychology.
After my studies I became a registered therapist, and began helping some women in the sex industry as a counsellor. I decided that accepting money for the service didn’t feel right and I would rather go out and get my hands dirty through my natural talents as an artist/photographer.
It has felt right to immerse myself in a community that could do positive things with my talents as a creative/photographer.
It’s around that time (6 months ago) that I was asked to collaborate with an underground queer club night as a party photographer. The archive of this work already feels like the first stages of something much greater, I see exhibitions, reportage work with members of the community, creative collaborations etc.
I see this and the love project, ‘Crunk Society’, almost coming together as one thread to showcase a body of work, the theme being an exploration of humanity rather than the ‘queer’ community vs ‘Street subculture’. It’s easy to box things because it feels more controlled but I’m ready to streamline everything as one unit.

Who would you most like to shoot?
Right now Pietro Boselli, but I’m really lucky, I always get to shoot great people, and they are amazing for different reasons and always very collaborative and often beautiful inside and out!

Lastly we are named after the iconic Mariah Carey song ‘Loverboy’. What is your favourite Mariah song?
‘Heartbreaker’. In my opinion the song is pop genius. The fight scene in the toilet and the crochet bikini with denim jeans combo, what’s not to love?
