Patrick Church presents ‘Dearly Beloved’

The last time we spoke to designer/artist Patrick Church, he was modelling his own looks alongside one of our favourite models, Louis Bubko. Now he’s back to give Loverboy an exclusive first look at his latest collection, ‘Dearly Beloved’ and discuss the importance of tiger print.

Patrick, what’s been happening since the last time we spoke?
I’ve just been getting on with my creative process and seeing my work evolve, I’m currently in Los Angeles and finding it visually exciting and inspiring. I just want to knuckle down and keep making work, I don’t know how to do anything else.

What has inspired this new collection? Does it have a name?
I just wanted to mix a lot of prints and continue my narrative as an artist and designer, it feels like a very personal journey. We called the presentation ‘Dearly Beloved’ as the center piece of the collection was two boy brides in wedding dresses, the idea of human connection and relationships was important to me when making this collection.

Tell us about the tiger print. What does this signify to you?
The tiger print is strong, vibrant and with the portraiture it feels mysterious. Personally I think it’s exciting and embodies everything about the brand.

In your last shoot for Loverboy, you were modelling yourself, alongside Louis Bubko. How did you select your models this time around?
Me and my long time collaborator David, decided to cast a wide variety of people. We thought more about the person rather than the ‘model’. For me it’s all about the soul and the individual when looking for someone to represent my work.

From sketching the initial idea to taking the final collection images. Which part of the process is your favourite?
I am always thinking ahead to the final product which I can see in my head before I even start, so the favourite part for me is to see the vision come to life when we are fitting the collection physically onto someone.
