‘I wanted to do something a bit longer, to push myself. Artistically a mixtape gave me more freedom,’ London-based writer/producer Tsatsamis told Loverboy back in March. Now the time has come with the long-awaited release of the mixtape Tsycophant.

Elsewhere in our interview the independent artist told us one of his main influences was the icon SOPHIE and her presence can be felt immediately on opener ‘Violent Thoughts’. The maximalist, lush and over-sized beat drop with Tsatsamis’ vocals soaring over the top lands somewhere between Jimmy Somerville and Robyn. ‘Think About You’ is a cute, uncomplicated bop about an innocent crush and to be honest the community doesn’t have enough of these, so let this be the first of many. ‘Angelina’ is our current favourite with some really biting lyrics that have been stuck in our head since the mixtape dropped – ‘If it all fucks up, if the drugs don’t work, whatever happens, just remember I was your first.’ Shout out to the vocal punctuation giving both Michael Jackson and George Michael. Yog’s presence also comes through on single ‘Spit or Kiss’, with smart, sexy lyrics like, ‘If you taste me on your lips, would you spit me out?’ First single ‘Recreational’ is a Moroder moment with futurist pulse-driven production and Frankie Goes to Hollywood-style chanting ‘DRUGS’ and ‘SEX’!

Tsycophant is Tsatamis developing his song-writing further, experimenting with the production and exploring those stacked backing vocals that bring so much character to his work. Tsatsamis has just finished a string of UK dates but watch out for more to come….
