New: Provoker – ‘Freezing Alive’

Sometimes Spotify Wrapped comes up with a curveball of a statistic that feels impossible to believe. But this year the streaming service told us that Provoker are our #2 band of the year and to be honest, this time, it’s not lying! The post-punk, horror-obsessed handsome show-gazers dropped their album, Demon Compass, just in time for Halloween and we have been under its spell ever since. Back in October’s interview Loverboy asked lead-singer, Christian, his favourite Demon Compass lyrics and he immediately quoted, ‘I guess I’m freezing alive, beauty in how fragile the design. The glaring sun will show, with only puddles to remind’ taken from taken from the group’s new single, ‘Freezing Alive.’

The single’s music video draws influence from early 90’s films as the heartbroken Christian drinks his heartbreak away to the point where he’s literally frozen numb at his local dive bar following a breakup over the phone. The song’s melancholic lyrics over beach-pop drums and swirling guitar lead capture the disarray and disorientation that comes after accepting the chilling reality that the person you once felt was the one is no longer there.
