JUST ANNOUNCED: New musical Pride coming in 2026

One of the most heart-warming LGBT films of recent times is 2014’s Pride. It tells the story of how the LGBT community came out in support of the Welsh miners when they were put out of business by Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s – thus creating the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign.

Producer P&P Productions recently announced that they are now adapting the film into a musical which is set to launch next month at Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre before moving to National Theatre’s Dorfman stage from June.

The musical will be direcred by Matthew Warchus (Matilda The Musical) with written by Stephen Beresford (The Last of the Haussmans). Pride will also feature original music by Christopher Nightingale (A Christmas Carol), Josh Cohen (Sylvia) and DJ Walde (Sylvia) with songs inspired by protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition.

Pride will play in the Dorfman theatre from 11 June to 12 September 2026.

Preview performances will run at Sherman Theatre in Cardiff from 31 March to 18 April 2026.
