Since snatching the crown of RuPaul’s Drag Race S6 and indeed dominating the front cover of this very publication, Violet Chachki has gone on to work with only the coolest, including American Dark Wave/Goth artist Mareux. The duo’s sickening video for the musician’s cover of The Cure’s ‘The Perfect Girl‘ has now amassed over 38 million views and counting.
Now, Mareux is set to return with ‘Laugh Now Cry Later‘, the first song to be taken from sophomore album, Nonstop Romance – out 27th June via Revolution/Warner records. Mareux is thankfully still finding solace in the shadows with the track underpinned by a most delicious Post-Punk bassline and a vocal that is both sinister and seductive in equal measure.
‘I started writing this song way back in 2018 and it’s gone through several evolutions since then. At the time, I was coming off of a bad relationship and was feeling bitter. I brought it back recently, not inspired by my own misfortunes, but those of some of my friends. This song is a standout on the album, not because it’s better than the other songs, but because it’s the saddest song on it,’ says Mareux.
