Loverboy Issue #3: Elle Exxe

Last September our ears caught up with the absolute banger that is ‘Lost in L.A.’ and boom we fell in love with the punk/pop sounds of Elle Exxe. Less Avril Lavigne and more a female fronted Beastie Boys, Elle rocks out on stage but kept it cute for our feature in Loverboy #3. We got the Glaswegian glammed up and took her for a knees up in the East End.

Why did you call yourself Elle Exxe?
I’d been thinking of names and one day I signed off an email with my real initial ‘L’ and a kiss ‘X.’ I thought about Elle Exxe and came up with like over a hundred reasons why I liked it. For example, I have a bizarre obsession with symmetry. Obviously the name is two palindromes so it’s perfect.
Also I’ve not really embraced my femininity much before, so the idea of ‘Elle’ was really new. I always wore shirts and things. Last year something shifted, I realised I was a girl and that maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing after all. It was a kind of self-acceptance thing.

What brought about that change?
I’d have to see a therapist to figure that out.

We know the number of a good one! Are you into queer culture?
Now that I read Loverboy! Who was the guy on the cover of your first issue?

Francois Sagat?
Yeah, I’ve been watching a lot of his stuff.

Haha…that must have been educational!
