Le Portail des Plaisirs

KinkyBanana is the alias of David Vitry-Ferreira, a French creative who moved to Berlin to get, well….kinky. Finding the freedom he craved to produce the content he desired, David’s latest offering is the short film, Le Portail Des Plaisirs. A beautifully shot film that captures a brief moment of ecstasy between two lovers that never even touch – merely catch a glimpse of the other through the mysterious portal.

“In the middle of the pandemic, in a moment where physical connection wasn’t possible, I was reading Tarot to myself in a naturist spot and saw two guys jerking off, mimicking each other’s movements… from afar. It was so beautiful; a primitive, intuitive sexual connection, outside of the physical realm, a hypnotic trance that became the base for Le Portail des Plaisirs.” David speaks to Loverboy the importance of touch and…tarot.

David, first things first, which cards did you pick during your reading at this naturist spot?
My Tarot reading is more a “coaching” type than a divination one. I believe our choices and intentions have an impact on our predictable futures. The Tarot is just a map to the higher version of oneself. But in this situation, I’m pretty sure that the Page of Wands was involved… the wanker card.

How was this period of ‘no touching’ for you personally? How did you survive?
It was definitely a challenging and transformative period, and I’m not sure I survived! Ahaha….A lot of us had an ‘over-consummation of porn’ moment followed with the questions ‘What do I really want? What do I really desire?’ Then started a kind of self-rediscovery of my own sexuality.

Can ‘no touching’ ever be hotter than real contact?
It absolutely can! I love to live sexuality in experimental ways and develop my senses differently around that. The ‘no touching’ was… a new thing for me, but I saw beauty in it. The way people created adaptive techniques to express their sexual needs was very inspiring. I also saw a strong sex positivity awaking online during this time and I would advice a lot of people to just try something outside of their ideas of what is ‘SEX’. A new dynamic between partners, a different situation, fetish. You might surprise yourself and love it, or find it’s just not for you. It doesn’t have to be traumatic. Sexuality is as sacred as it is absurd. So is Life. Explore and enjoy.

How/why did you choose these specific models?

To be honest I just wanted to have two models that tell stories through who they are, and how they present themselves. We met a few people, very different profiles, but the union of Afif and Eduardo gave extra depth for the movie. The project would probably be more ‘popular’ with white muscled ‘masc’ presenting gay models, but after working so long in the porn industry, I think it is time to show the diversity and subtleties of our community. The nuances and shades of our rainbow.

What pointers did you give Steev Lemercier when asking for music?
Music is so important to me – it’s a mood maker. It’s an aspect I missed a lot from working on editorials. So I knew that when directing my first movie, music would be a strong element. I had the idea of a little melody that would be looped, to support the visual hypnosis. It was quite a challenge, to get something bewitching but also on the edge of maddening. I feel blessed to have worked with Steev. I love his mystic, bizarre and sexy universe, that was perfectly fitting. If you need a trip, go check his work!

The film was presented at Homografia in Brussels and Satyrs & Maenads: The Athens Porn Film Festival. How were these events?
We premiered at Homografia and I was so surprised how FIRE this event was! I loved their curation of artists, the location, the vibe is amazing. I really felt honoured to be part of such a beautiful queer event. At some point, I found myself onstage, spotlight on me, a mic to present ‘Le Portail des Plaisirs’ and I could only mumble ‘Guys I’m way too stoned to answer anything right now’, the public “YAAAASSS”ed and I realised I was exactly where I was supposed to be, screening my baby.

What are you working on next?
I’ve got a lot of stories to tell! I presented ‘Confessions Nocturnes’ at Homografia this Autumn. It’s a photo story project of LGBTIQ+ people disclosing a sexual secret they confessed to the moon, and I would like it to tour a bit. I’m also working on an erotic tale illustrated by the amazing Bruterdam, and some videos coming up soon.

Finally we are named after the biggest-selling single of 2001 so we always ask what is your favourite Mariah song?
Oh Honey, she is the Fantasy, a pure Vision of Love but at the same time a Heartbreaker, and you know It’s Like That! Without you Mariah, I wouldn’t be a Dreamlover, you are a true Hero. All I want for Christmas is One Sweet Day with My All, because We Belong Together so Don’t Forget About Us. Aahahah I know, I’m Obsessed!
