Anish Kapoor at the Hayward Gallery

Currently showing at London’s Hayward Gallery is the new exhibition from one of the most influential artists of our time, Anish Kapoor.

As part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the Southbank Centre, the visionary sculptor is returning to the first UK space to publically hosted his art in 1998. This new exhibition brings together some of Kapoor’s most impressive, most alien and most optically confounding pieces.

Famous for creating art that challenges the viewer’s sense of perception, this new collection of Kapoor’s work is full of intensity. The dominant palette of deep reds, blacks and the occasional silver ramps up our emotional response, evoking nausea, violence and claustrophobia. The exhibition pushes our senses and tests our thresholds of comfort. It feels less concerned with explaining Kapoor’s reasoning than with allowing each work to speak for itself, inviting an instinctive, almost primal reaction from the viewer. On display are pieces recalling human sacrifice, cavernous black holes and extra terrestrial landscapes, such as Ha Mokum inspired by Uluru.

Anish Kapoor says:“I am thrilled to be making an exhibition at the Hayward Gallery with Ralph Rugoff and to be returning to the Hayward after 28 years. The Southbank Centre has over the last 75 Years been central to London’s cultural life and I am honoured to make an exhibition to celebrate this anniversary.”

Anish Kapoor will be at the Hayward Gallery until 18th October 2026.
