Ever wondered what an ode to fisting would sound like? Well, wonder no more thanks to MUCHAS PROBLEMAS, the new musical project of multidisciplinary artist, provocateur, and Loverboy fave, Charlie Le Mindu.
With the self-titled debut EP, Charlie firmly plants his flag, or should we say fist, in the music Industry. But don’t get it twisted, this is more than just another shock electronic album. As Charlie says: ‘Muchas Problemas is about giving value to experiences that are usually reduced to taboo. About desire without explanation. Without apology.’
And that’s just what he does on this EP. Finally taking centre stage after years of being a behind-the-scenes creative powerhouse. Predominately known for his fashion designs and work using hair, Charlie has cooked up cunty fashion for Gaga and Cobrah, and performed with the queen of the filthy underground herself Peaches.
On EP opener, ‘Inhale’ Charlie takes us through a seven-minute meditation over lush Patrick Cowley-esque soundscapes, encouraging us to open ourselves up both spiritually and…physically. Suggesting we grab the poppers, Charlie chants, ‘I can take anything in.’ It feels like he is prepping us for what’s to come, namely ‘Take Me In’ a track consisting of Moroder-style pulsating beats, tension-driven production and pure punk howls. All this is used to great effect to deliver a frantic but holy hymn to fisting. The tempo doesn’t drop on ‘Muchas Problems’ or “Loco’ where Charlie’s years of being in the underground party scene shine. That special mix of post-punk, industrial, and dark wave makes you picture yourself dancing euphorically in some fire hazard of a basement while sweat drips off the ceiling. The EP closes with a bit of ‘Tina’ at the Afters, where Charlie delivers a soft spoken word performance, the much-needed post-sesh aftercare.
MUCHAS PROBLEMAS a noisy, dirty, sexy, emotional rollercoaster! Our favourite type of ride!
