NEW: Baby Weight – ‘Expression’

For the majority of corporations, June aka Pride Month is a 31-day window for rainbow logos and feel-good slogans. But for those of us actually in the community it’s a 365-day situation where we find ways to celebrate our history, our chosen family and those who came before us every day. US DJ/Producer Baby Weight‘s new single ‘Expression‘ is a shout out to all this and more.

Released back in June, via legends HE.SHE.THEY., ‘Expression’ is a punchy, UKG-inspired anthem that fuses sharp percussion, rolling basslines, and infectious grooves. It’s built for the club but rooted in resiliance — fierce, fun, and unapologetically queer.

The video, which premieres today, features cameos from queer icons like The Blessed Madonna and I. JORDAN and pays tribute to important LGBT+ historic figures like Matthew Shepard and Sylvia Rivera alongside clips from everyday members of the community, crowdsourced through social media. The vibe? Real, raw, and full of heart. Baby Weight set out to make something that moves — emotionally and politically. The video shines a light on the beauty of real queer lives: joyful, messy, powerful, and proud.

Baby Weight says: “It was important to me that we send the message that in spite of the hate, violence, and rhetoric, we as a community won’t back down. We owe it to persons like Matthew Shepard, Nex Benedict, Venus Xtravaganza, Rita Hester, Harvey Milk, and the countless other queer people who are no longer with us. We have to be ourselves even when things are hard or scary because joy and hope are the keys to survival. And we have to survive.”

She adds, “I used social media to fuel this project because, as cool as it could have been to just be a barrage of cameos, I wanted the majority of the people featured to just be average LGBTQ+ people just minding their business and living life. The quote I’ve been using as the theme for this release has been ‘existence is resistance’ and I wanted that to come across in the music video.”
