Introducing…Elle Exxe

OK it’s time to spill the tea…Sleigh Bells were fucking awesome, but they only had one decent track. OK two at a push. So make way for Elle Exxe who shares a love for similar grimey production but is more than happy to bring an actual melody to the party. Take her new party jam, it kind of reminds us of The Strangelove’s ‘I Want Candy‘ but she’s ripped it to pieces, pulled it through a grinder and thrown back together the morning after one hell of a hangover. It’s delicious. We’ve been yelling ‘WHO TOLD YOU YOU COULD STOP PLAYING??’ at our iTunes for the last half an hour after it hit the 3:40 mark of this gem. Get into Elle and her new single below. Oh and yeah, it’s out now.

‘I could be the next Cilla Black!’ Elle Exxe’s new single, the anthem ‘Lost in L.A.’, is out now.

Hey Elle, so first up, we love your new video, can you set us up with the hot bear in it? WHO IS HE?! WHERE DID YOU FIND HIM?
A BEAR?! I despair! He was a feline-relative of Pussy LaRae – the infamous catwalk model. He’s gone astray recently but I can definitely hook you up with Pussy. Thanks re: video!

You directed this video yourself. Do you have experience in directing?
Not specifically in directing but I’ve always been heavily involved from concept to creation with my music videos.

You’re from Edinburgh, is that right? Most Scottish popstars tend to have a guitar and an indie/acoustic sound. How did you manage to escape that route?!
I am, yes! I know what you mean, there’s a lot of that kind of music in Scotland and I love it, but we’ve got artists like Calvin Harris, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and Young Fathers too – the landscape in Scotland is totally shifting now that we’ve all got access to listen and perform on a www. worldwide platform.
My sound is probably because I love my tech; I started producing when I was about 15 – so that instantly leads you down a different road to the acoustic one. There’s so much more you can create when you have a computer filled with billions of different sounds and combinations. The sound shifted further when I started spending more time in London; in Scotland I was the emo-rock-chick but in London I fell in love with pop, hip-hop and afro-beats. The way I see it, I love any genre that brings some fire and I hope that’s what my music does for others.

What has been your wildest party in LA moment?
Not the wildest but one of the weirdest was crashing a roof party on the top of the W hotel in Hollywood with people jumping in the pool in their suits and ties whilst I sat and drank cocktails with Kaci Battaglia (remember “I think I love you”?!). It would have been wild if the promised arrival of Lady GaGa had ever happened!

What’s the most injured you got at a party?
The “Lost in L.A.” video shoot-party. The Exxterminators were swinging me onto that mattress…but sticking out underneath were wooden pallets. They swung me a little low and OUUUUUCH. Honestly I was an alien-skintone the following day, every part of my body was bruised and battered.

Who would you most like to write for and why?
Beyonce and Lady GaGa because I once had a dream where I did a sell-out show at the Staples Centre and they both came up to me afterwards and begged me to write songs for/with them. So if I write for them, maybe the Staples Centre bit will come true too!? Hahah I don’t care much for the begging bit, but I’d really love to write a song for/with GaGa – she’s a free spirit, a risk-taker and has an incredible voice so I’d love playing around with that.

What do you most want to achieve with your debut album and why?
I want to achieve creative freedom.

Are you seeing anyone right now?
I am 🙂 But I think I could be the next Cilla Black, so if you want we can turn the tables and I’ll hook you up?

What is your favourite Mariah Carey song and why?
“I Know What You Want” the Busta collab, because it has the sexiest intro and bass known to booty popping mankind.
