Introducing…Scott Humphreys x Karl Slater

Whether it’s selling Barbra Streisand tees, confessing his Daddy Issues or getting his freak on at Trough, there is one face who is becoming synonymous with the London scene right now – Scott Humphreys. A model and self-confessed clown, Scott works at one of our favourite stores Phillip Normal by day and can be seen at London’s hottest spots by night.
We asked one of faves, Karl Slater, to shoot Scott just keeping it casual in White City tube station because….why not?

Scott Humphreys

You’re been having a bit of a modelling moment recently. What’s the journey been like?
I started having an interest in the fashion industry when I was nine, after watching a Versace documentary! Then I started designing clothes until I started college as a fashion design student.  After that I decided to do a tailoring apprenticeship on Savile Row with Henry Poole. This got me super interested in high-end garments and other fashion houses. Though this I met other industry people who asked me to shoot for them! I just bloody loved it.
Around that time I started going out more on the club scene – especially Room Service where I met Jodie Harsh who asked me to shoot for one of her flyers.
I haven’t always been comfortable with how I look. When I was 18 months old I got badly burnt by boiling water. I have scars over my arms and under my chin, but modelling really helped me find confidence. This is one of the reasons for my many tattoos. lol.
Last year modelling really started to take off.  I guess due to me feeling fully comfortable in myself I just try never to hold myself back any more!

What do you most look for in a shoot?
Well, first thing I have to say is whether I can adapt one of my multiple personalities to the varying contents of the shoot. I’m pretty sure that I can always find one of them to get along with the photographer and their vision.

What do you do on a 9 to 5 basis?
I’m a part-time clown and I also work at this amazing independent boutique in Brixton Village called ‘Philip Normal.’ When I find the time I jump from shoot to shoot as much as I can, I would love to find an agent that would carry me to the next level.

How was the Loverboy shoot?
This was my first ever shoot on location! I would say I was slightly nervous but once I got going it was fine. Nevertheless it was still eventful! From security giving us free reign of the station to then being accused of some slightly suspicious activity (lol) Then to top it all off wearing basically mesh trousers all day! lol.

What are your plans for 2017?
Well I’m pretty excited already, I have my own club night coming to Eagle in Vauxhall very soon. I will also be entering my dirty 30’s, so it’s time I really started laying down my foundations in London….

Thanks so much for shooting this for us. What inspired the location?

Ive always felt Scott is synonymous with London so i wanted to incorporate something quintessentially London, and what better then a Underground station. We may have broken a few laws making it happen..

Have you worked with Scott before?
Scott and I have actually become regular collaborators, I think this is the 7th shoot together now… Lets just say theres not many people I could do that with. Scott has this incredible energy on camera that keeps me coming back for more.

Who else do you have lined up for 2017?
This is a tricky question for me, right now I’m working to build exposure as i have aspirations on becoming a key player in the photography world. Im exploring the world of male beauty and working with some truly amazing Makeup artists developing some forward thinking concepts. I would love to produce a small exhibition or coffee table book. Something fashionable but sexy at the same time.

We are named after the Mariah Carey song. What is your favourite Mariah song?
Do i have to pick just one…?!  Well there is one that i aways keeping going back to, Mariah Carey – I Still Believe / Pure Imagination ft. Krayzie Bone, Da Brat.
