A talk with Francois Sagat…

It’s fair to say Loverboy and Francois Sagat have history. We spoke to him numerous times for our early incarnation of The Back Building and then we turned him into Madonna for the cover of our very first issue – breaking the internet while we were at it. So after a big fortnight for Francois, where he announced his return to porn and starred in the new video for Iranian-Dutch singer Sevdaliza, we thought we should sit down with him and find out more….

Francois, it feels like you’ve been away for a while. Do you feel like that too?
I do think so, those last 3 years…yeah. But I was also very active in other fields, I guess…focusing on other energies and you need to pay the bills.

What have you been up to on your break?
I really don’t think it was a “break”? You know life is full of cycles, I just don’t really see this that way. Emptiness has been part of my life even during my golden age of porn (lol), people don’t have the same perception. I never had a real career plan since the beginning. And even If I told you, ‘I’ve decided to do ‘nothing’ lately’ – well, why not? The ‘What are your next projects?’ question is an annoying one, cuz my answer would be, ‘NONE. Just wait and see if something is released. If it’s well promoted, good for me. Otherwise if it ends up being a flop…that’s life.’

Are you consciously making a return for global domination(!) or have these projects coincided coincidently?
It’s pure hazard…nothing strategic! I have always been on social media. PORN is Social Media, Fashion is Social Media, Music is Social Media, etc…I’ve been there without being officially active or ‘Corporate.’ Maybe I have maybe reached my limits(??)

Yes, your social media is filled with monsters from 80s horror movies! Where did that obsession come from?
I’ve always been fascinated with Creatures since Ghostbusters in 1984. There’s Gremlins, The Blob, Fright Night, Ghoulies, The Gate, Pumkinhead and House. Hundreds and hundreds of these movies come out each year from whenI was born, 1979, though out my childhood and teenage years. The 80’s/90’s were very prolific in terms of gender creature and fantastic/horror movies. I was just born in the middle of it. Always happy to be scared or impressed. I’m a very good audience. I’m crazy about Tim Curry’s It Clown, the most complete character. ALIEN’s Giger is the best design and lately quite obsessed with 2017 LIFE’s ‘Calvin’ alien…so good !!!!

What else is planned for 2017?
2016 was random, dysfunctional, chaotic, poor and concerning. 2017 started really OK… it’s still alright, just a little bit ‘uncomfortable.’ That’s only thing I can say. Stuff planned but you’ll see if it’s released.

And tell us about the collaboration with Sevdaliza. How did it happen?
We first talked almost a year ago. It took six months to finally find the right time to shoot the video. She contacted me through a friend of mine, JeanPaul Paula who’s in Amsterdam, she lives in Rotterdam. She was thinking of me for a previous track but the schedules didn’t match, so Bluecid’ was the one! Sevdaliza and I had to learn the Paso Doble with the dance teacher the day before the shoot! Intense.

We’ve not heard of Sevdaliza before, was she on your radar before this project?
Yes! The first thing I’d seen was ‘MARILYN MONROE’ with this amazing CGI effect videoclip.

What is the concept behind the video for ‘BLUECID’?
An impossible love…between fight, hate, vulnerability and attraction, portrayed through ‘LA CORRIDA.’ I’m the Taurus, she’s the Torera.

Can you tell us about the character you are playing?
I’m short, fractious. I’m dressed and I die at the end – almost like a little poodle…not a toro!

We know you can dance, but what are you like with choreography?
Yeah the morning I arrived we went straight to the dance class to learn the steps with our two teachers. It wasn’t really like a Tango, more Paso Doble, still very technical and strict. I felt a bit lost because you have to have a great memory without thinking too much and the fact that I was shorter than Sevdaliza was even more challenging. Plus my body is not that flexible.

A lot of people in the comments section of the video seems to have different opinions on the height difference between you and Sevdaliza. How did it change the performance?
I’m ahead of you each question lol…it was actually really appealing for the majority of the viewers I’ve noticed. It’s not intentional. Maybe Zahra Reijs, the art director of the video, would be able to give you her specific vision about it!!

We’ve spoken to you so many times and yet we’ve never asked you what your favourite Mariah song is!
My favourite Mariah Song is ‘Without you’ with no hesitation.
