Introducing…Cachorro

Right now Cachorro is everything we could want in a guy – he’s handsome, hairy and a dab hand with a paint brush. He also has a great sense of humour, an underwear fetish and is raising money for good causes like the LGBT community in Russia. So we thought we’d catch up our future boyfriend and find out more…

First up, let’s talk eyebrows because yours are exceptionally cute! What’s your secret?
My grandfather has the secret. I inherited his eyebrows. So it’s all about genetics. They haven’t changed a bit since I was a child. I had a complex when I was a teenager because I literally didn’t have any space between the eyebrows, it was all hair. Now I enjoy it, I wouldn’t change a hair of my body. The more savage, the better.

How long have you been painting?
I have been painting since I was a child. But of course, I have been through some very different phases. It wasn’t all naked men from the beginning. I wanted to be a designer long before I wanted to be a musician or an actor. Then, when I started studying Arts and after I broke up with my first boyfriend, I realized art was actually the only medium big enough for me to express what I felt. I draw and paint a lot and right now I feel like painting, but I still have some photography projects going on, a music band called VacasVenereas (it’s something like Venereous Cows in English)…I am a restless ass (I don’t know if the meaning of this is as accurate as in spanish is, but I think you will get what I am trying to express).

How has your Instagram affected your paintings?
I was born when the internet was already there. Internet was fundamental during puberty, and it was crucial when I was a teenager full of hormones, always horny. It let me become who I wanted to be. When Instagram appeared, I realized I didn’t need any words to talk, just images. My discourse was my body. And trying to understand that complicated and powerful relationship we have with our bodies, modelated my work completely. I enjoy constructing myself through the lens of others, it’s a funny game to play. I found a perfect way to send my message, to earn money, and to make people enjoy with their sexuality. It is kind of obvious, of course, that I would not be doing this without the appearance of Instagram in my life, since my virtual persona has taken a huge importance in my construction as an individual and therefore as an artist. My work is myself, and I am my own creation. And that is something very very enjoyable to experience.

What themes are recurrent through your work?
Male nudity is constantly present in my work. Cocks everywhere! I find dicks to be the most beautiful thing in the world (well, some of them). And with this phallocentric point of view (which I am very self critical with, of course) I am constantly talking about the construction of masculinity, of others and mine, and how it has been inheritited culturally, through education, literature, cinema. Hypersexualization and the process media uses to hypersexualize people is something that hallucinates me. And basically, it all resumes to talking about affection, love, desire, and of course, unrequited desire.

You’re often in your underwear in shots. Do you find underwear sexier than being naked?
I have a huge fetish with underwear. White briefs are my favourite. The best combination for me is hair + white briefs. Also I get very turned on by this kind of nerdy boxer shorts with drawings of StarWars, SpongeBob Squarepants. I think there is nothing more erotic than the moment before you take the underwear off the man you are about to see completely naked. That exact moment, the game of imagining whats inside…is a precious feeling! That’s why I co-created a brand for underwear and t-shirts called SemenUp, to sell both brand new and used underwear, to enjoy my fetish.

What are you working on at the moment?
Right now I am preparing an exhibition of paintings that will take place in Madrid during the World Pride, also I have many performances going on, and at the same time I am working with some colleagues in trying to collect ‘money throwing’ parties and selling beneficial t-shirts to donate and help Russian LGBTQ networks. We are terrified with what’s going on in Chechnya and we need to fucking act NOW.

Where are you based?
I’m from the Basque Country, in the north of Spain, but I’ve been living in Madrid for two years now. It’s a wonderful, electric and pleasant city to live in, and it is actually a very queer city.

Lastly we are named after the infamous Mariah song Loverboy. What is your favourite Mariah song?
I will have to say “We Belong Together”. Mariah Carey seducing the camera lying in a bed with white sheets is my spirit animal.
