Introducing…Ray Noir

We’re half way round the world right now and living it up in NYC. Whether that’s in the Boiler Room, the Metropolitan or where it all began at The Stonewall Inn, we’ve been meeting the good people of New York. But that’s not to say we don’t still have the odd urge for a night out in London……OK, we don’t, but if we DID, we’d be heading straight to East Bloc where our next interviewee is a resident DJ. We thought we’d catch up with Ray Noir about his new single, ‘Double Trouble.’

Frankmusik has produced your new single?
Yes he did.

How was working with him?
It was great to work with Frankmusik, He caught me right away on the direction of the music I wanted to make. I’m hoping to work with him again, he is a great producer and works really fast. It’s incredible to watch him work.

Who would people be most surprised to learn you are influenced by?
I don’t think there is any surprises, anyone who knows me knows that I am very much into Industrial, Synth and Metal music, so you can hear that these are my influences in the song “Double Trouble” as well.

You have a very distinctive style. If you could style anyone who would it be?
I wouldn’t be styling anyone, that’s not my job. I think I am better off just dressing myself, but I wouldn’t mind go through Marilyn Manson’s wardrobe.

What are your favourite club nights in London?
My favourite club in London is East Bloc, that’s where you find me most of the time, as that’s where I mainly DJ as well.

Is it just Dish you are a part of?
I am also a resident at Blocheads, but I play a few other parties as well now and then.

What sets your nights apart from the others?
Dish is always fun, sweaty, lot’s of good music and hot boys!

What’s the ultimate club accessory?
Black eye shadow, I hardly go out without black eye make-up, haha

Who did you listen to when you were 13 but haven’t listened to since?
A swedish girl duo called Yaki-Da, which was also, embarrassingly enough my first CD.

Which artist have you never stopped listening to?
I have always had the same favourite bands, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Placebo, Hole, The Smashing Pumpkins and Seigmen. I also love a lot of other bands, but these are the bands that have been with me since the teenagers until today.

‘Double Trouble’ will be out soon on Frankmusik’s label, VDI records.
