Introducing…Baby Tap

In case the title didn’t give it away, we love Baby Tap. Just check him out deep throating a carrot till he pukes in the video below. His album Gem Pop is genius. Download it free here.

What made you want to create this character?
I think Baby Tap is the creative mode I slip into when I want to poke fun at the world and connect with it in a different way. It’s all about the music though. I’m just the ship that carries the cargo.

How did it come together?
Free software and midi-makers got me producing from a young age and I just had to wait until I felt confident enough in my life to want to air my opinions. As I learned more about the evil and love in this world the desire to express myself became stronger, though I am still working on it all. I’ve hardly begun.

What genre do you classify your music as?
I don’t want to stick to one thing or one style, I want to push music forward, allowing myself to be influenced by anything that influences me – I want my music to sound unique. Of course it has its sonic influences though, seapunk, witch-hop, trap, noise, goth, hip-hop, industrial and even arabesque and oriental influences, but you know…I want to mash it up. It’s important for me to sound forward and progressive.

Who would you like to collaborate with?
Oh my God, in the present moment? Collaborating is hard though I would love to collaborate with Brooke Candy, Azealia Banks, Chippy Nonstop, Kreayshawn, Diplo… Le1f… Charli XCX… A lot of artists make me buzz at the moment.

Who has influenced you?
Erm, I guess M.I.A. has influenced me a lot with her sound and attitude. Bjork also, I adore Bjork. Nicki Minaj inspired me to start rapping too you know! Everyone is supposed to say some old-school hip hop artist but I think Nicki Minaj is my rap influence. I grew up listening to lots of hip hop and garage, then goth metal and then electronic noise music. People like Le1f and Grimes are genius and I love Cobra Killer dearly. The Smashing Pumpkins, Siouxsie & The Banshees… There are many brilliant artists… I’m also influenced by Parappa The Rapper and the Moomins inspire me a lot.

Do you do your own styling?
What, as if, yeah I do!

What’s the concept behind Gem Pop?
I think I was just saying “hi” to the world, I was getting some personal crap off my chest and out of the way and I wanted to display my dream-world to people. I guess the concept of this album is the search for ones higher self, whichever dimension that may be beyond. It ties in with dance music for me because to enjoy such primal drives such as dancing is something hypnotic and something that can take you to different places.

Who is the ultimate Hip-G Girly Girl?
I have no idea who the ultimate Hip-G Girly Girl is! A Hip-G Girly Girl is anybody who loves to hang out and eat delicious treats, watch tv and play in the sun. A Hip G-Girly Girl is a person who is just sweet and super-cool. There is no ultimate Hip-G Girly Girl. You can’t measure these things though… I can’t think of many people cooler than Nina Hagen!

What is on your Amazon Wish List?
A real good video camera & some seaweed onigri.

What is your favourite Mariah Carey song?
I really hate to say this but I really couldn’t say but I do understand she can sing really nicely and she seems very funny. I liked it when she was on QVC.
